Smith - Joseph Livingston 1891 - Blocton Baseball.jpg Photo courtesy of Richard Smith. Richard says: "Joseph Smith must have been a good athlete as it was reported he was offered a scholarship to go to Alabama but turned it down because he would have to play football as well as baseball and he didn't care for football. He is second from left back row." Smith-John_W_Jr.jpg and Smith-John_W_Sr_1924_Homeplace.jpg Photos courtesy of Richard Smith. Richard says: "This is a photo of my Dad John W.Smith, grandson of Jesse Kirby Smith, taken in upstate New York when he was surveying for the railroad sometime in the 1920's." and "This picture is of John W. Smith's home place in Brookwood taken in 1924." Smith-John_W_Sr_1931_&_Adelia_Price.jpg and Smith-John_W_Sr_1932_&_Adelia.jpg Photos courtesy of Richard Smith. (taken about 1931 & 1932) Richard says: "This [1931] is the photo of my grandparents John W. and Adelia (Price) Smith. Either she was very small or he was very big. They didn't call him Big John for nothing I guess." Smith-5_Smiths_ 1947-08_Noccalula_Falls.jpg Photos courtesy of Richard Smith. (taken about 1931 & 1932) Richard says: "I almost hesitated to send this photo as my wife said it reminded her of the "Little Rascals". It was taken at Noccalulla Falls in Gadsden during a Smith reunion of sorts. Reading left to right are Thomas Ray in the sailor cap, Billy Joe the dark haired one, James Richard peering out from under his brothers arm, John Wesley the oldest and in front Anthony Wayne the youngest who died earliest in 1952. The two men you can see in the background are my Father on the left and my cousin Joe Smith on the right." "Joe was the son of my uncle Dr. Murray Smith. The two of them are carrying a zinc washtub of lemonade to the picnic area where we are to eat. I shudder to think now what the acid in the lemonade did when it interacted with the zinc in the washtub. Of course we did a lot of things that people would shudder at today, run with scissors, play outside, etc.etc. If anyone in the family ever had any money to speak of it would have been my oldest cousin Joe." "After returning from WW2 he opened a bakery in Chattanooga which did very well. He also had a bit part in the Walt Disney Film "Light in the Forest' which starred Fess Parker and was filmed in the Chattanooga area. He played a British Officer and got to ride a horse in a distant scene. I have a picture some where if I can find it I will send later. He's in his British Officer costume. He always came to our house at Christmas with his station wagon loaded down with bakery items, cakes, pies, cookies, It was a kid's fantasy come true." Smith-Joseph_1941_Army_Uniform.jpg, Smith-Joseph_1957_with_Fess_Parker.jpg, and Smith-Joseph_1957_in_British_Uniform.jpg Photos courtesy of Richard Smith. (taken about 1941 & 1957) The first is Joe Smith in his WWII Army Uniform. The other two of Joe Smith are explained above. Richard says: "I found the pictures of my cousin Joe Smith in his brief movie career. It was fitting that he played a British Officer as he was a Major when he returned from the European Theater after WW2. My Dad said Joe had been attached to Eisenhower's staff but I have no way to prove that. In any case he proved to be a much better Baker than an actor. He was also an archeologist in his spare time and had an amazing collection of Native American artifacts." "I must apologize for the quality of the photos as they were given to me from that reunion I mentioned earlier ... They were run off on plain paper ... The 2 I'm sending from the "Light in the Forest" movie were made in the summer of 1957."
