Clarence Vincent 7/11/81 -- (continued) Uncle Ullman told Clarence that the town of Vincent was named after our common progeniter, John Vincent [STRIKE OUT -](father of 16 children)[- STRIKE OUT] who was a preacher and raised a big family. John is buried at that church. Ullman said the church was started by John. John and his wife were such wonderful church workers in the community, they named it after them. Alvin, Clarence's Father, moved his family to Bessemer in 1918 or 1919, and bought a shoe shop from Ullman (which was located in Thompson Town) which he closed in a few months when he heard of a shoe shop in Jonesboro, which he bought. Earl Vincent (son of John) was a drifter and never worked. He lived all over the country. John made a living as an entertainer dancing in nightclubs in New York. [NOTE: The Town of Vincent, AL was NOT named after our ] [ancestors. I have corresponded with those for whom ] [the town was named. They are not related to us. The ] [story Clarence heard was a fable that was passed down ] [and embellished upon by his father's siblings. ] [The John Vincent he mentioned was my 2nd-great-grand- ] [father (1787-1871) and first Vincent to move to AL. ] [He was indeed an ordained minister but he was not ] [buried in the town of Vincent, AL. He was buried at ] [Salem Presbyterian Church in Renfroe, AL. He had to ] [be buried there because it was too far for him to be ] [buried near his own church according ot research done ] [by his great-granddaughter, Maude McLure Kelly. ] [ ] [Earl Vincent (1907-1984) was son of John William ] [Vincent (1877-1955) who was my grandfather's brother. ] [Clarence speaks of Earl's brother John Levert Vincent ] [(1913-1990) who was a dancer. My Uncle Aaron Walker ] [Vincent said he say Earl dance once. see Uncle Aaron ] [interview dated 3-5-80 in this research log on Page 31] [of 41 in the PDF Document. Therefore, it may have ] [John Levert Vincent, rather than Earl, that Uncle ] [Aaron saw tap dancing. Further research is needed. ] [ ] [Cousin Kenneth Grogan (1941-2001) was the son of Ruby ] [Elizabeth Vincent (1911-1989) who was sister of John ] [Levert Vincent. Kenneth knew his Uncle John and sent ] [me photos of him. Kenneth also showed me graves in ] [Montezuma, GA where Vincents are buried. ]
