Lucinda Kennedy

Lucinda Kennedy was something of a mystery for decades.  When Maud Kelly was researching my family back in the 1940s, she interviewed my grandfather, Oakley.  She gave my dad a hand written pedigree on which was written some of the information grandfather Oakley Vincent told her.  Unfortunately, he was not certain of his maternal grandmother's family so he gave Maud the wrong surname.  That lead me astray for many years.

This story is documented on the VincentFamily website.  CLICK HERE to read it.  As mentioned on the VincentFamily website and elsewhere, we know what Lucinda's birth surname is.  However, for many more years I thought it was spelled "Canaday."

We know that Lucinda and others in her family used the spelling "Kennedy" or "Kenedy" rather than "Canady" because her birth surname is spelled "Kenedy" on her marriage record and her sister Mary, who was living with William and Lucinda Kennedy Finch in 1880, also had her name spelled "Kennedy" on the 1880 Census.

It says, ""You are hereby authorized to join William Finch and Lucinda Kenedy in the Holy State of Matrimony."

- CLICK HERE to see her sister Mary shown as "sister-in-law" to Lucinda's husband, William Finch on the 1880 Census.
