MyKinFolks.org Prince Family | ||||||||||||
Susie's paternal grandmother (Coot's mom) was Mildred Vera Prince (1907-1993). According to Susie's computer file, Mildred's parents were John Andrew Jackson Prince (1879-1958) and Melinda Flaurentine Crauswell (1881-1951). I knew Mildred well but never met her parents. Also, according to Susie's genealogy computer file, John and Melinda Prince had 9 children. Mildred was 4th oldest. The only one of of Mildred's siblings I ever knew was her oldest sister whom Coot referred to as "Aunt Lillian." She was Lillian Mennie Prince Kennedy (1901-1982). John Andrew Jackson Prince's mother was Sara Elizabeth Rainey after whom our daughter Rainey was named. We first heard the given name "Rainey" when Susie and I were baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We were members of the Kokomo Branch (now a ward), the Indianapolis, Indiana Stake. Two of the church members we got to know in Kokomo were Glenn Gardner and his wife Lynn who is a well known LDS author. CLICK HERE for a list of Lynn's books. Lynn named her daughter "Rainey" and everyone in the Kokomo Branch loved the name. Jim and Jill Holmes of Kokomo named their youngest daughter Rainey. Susie and I determined to use the name for one of our daughters but, by the time our firstborn (John) came along, we had already decided to give each of our children one family name and one Biblical name. Luckily, Susie discovered that her paternal great-great-grandmother was named "Sara Elizabeth Rainey." We loved the name so much we named our 4th child "Sarah" and our 5th child "Rainey." It wasn't until I received an email from Lynn Gardner on March 3, 2008 that I discovered Lynn not only spelled the name "Raini" rather than "Rainey" but it wasn't even her daughter's birth name. Her actual name was "Lorraine." "Raini" was a nickname. That was okay with us, though, because Susie's 2nd-great-grandmother spelled her surname "Rainey." That was the spelling we preferred. The purpose of creating these web pages is so we can preserve these stories. I hope my children copy and save them so they can pass them on to their own descendants so they don't get lost in time. In the future, I may forget these things but hopefully our descendants won't. I only have a couple photos of Mildred Prince. Here are links to them: I hope my children and grandchildren learn more about the Princes. They need to talk to their Aunt Sandy Little Hocutt who has been researching the Prince Family for many years. She could tell them anything she remembers about Susie's cousins, great-aunts or uncles, etc. who were members of the Prince Family. ~ END ~
