Jesse E. Smith

I descended from Jesse E. Smith and his wife, Fannie Fulmer.  My lineage is:
Ron (me) > Doris (my mom) > Oney (grandmom) > Lillie (g-grandmom) > Jesse Smith (this page).

As with other pages on this MyKinFolks website (which I own), all relationships are written from my perspective, so you'll need to know how we're related to see things from your perspective.  If you don't know how we're related, please email me and I'll be glad to let you know: ronv-at-ronv-dot-net.

Jesse and Fannie had at least a dozen children, perhaps more.  They are detailed on his wife Fannie Fulmer's page at this website and are given names based on the 1880 U.S. Census.  Please visit Fannie Fulmer's page (Jesse's wife) for more details and lots of info about their children and their descendants.

Children:
Jesse and Fannie were married the 19th day of January, A.D. 1860.  CLICK HERE (or scroll down) to jump to "Other Information" section of this page for a link to view their marriage license.

According to the 1880 Census their children were: Dock, Gedd B., John, William, Joel B., Vardie, Mollie, Jessie, Coot, and Babie.  Mistakes on the Census and details for the children can be found at Jessie's wife, Fannie Fulmer's page.

Description:
We don't currently have a description of Jesse Smith.

Military:
Jesse may have served the CSA during the Civil War.  We've found records that may or may not be him.  He told his children some tall tales about his military service about how he was a famous military leader and served as a high-ranking officer.  Some say he was a colonel, others say he was a general.  If he served at all, he was most likely an enlisted man.

His given name was Jesse, middle initial "E" (probably for "Edward") according to his marriage certificate and the death certificate of his son Joseph.

Education:
Both the 1870 and 1880 Censuses say Jesse could read and write.
His older children had also been taught to read while his wife Fannie, however, was illiterate.

Career:
Census records show that Jesse was either a carpenter (1870) or a farmer (1880).  His descendants suggest that he may also have known a little about blacksmithing.

Note: He was of age but Fannie didn't reach age 18 until later that year.  That's why she needed
the consent of her parents to marry.
